Mrs. Phyllis May Travis Deaton, RN, OHN, COHC 78, of Green Mountain, NC, passed away on Wednesday, September 23, 2026, at her residence, following a period of declining health.

Phyllis was born on November 4, 1947, in Susquehanna, PA to the late Wilford R. Travis and Anna Buchanan. She was a retired nurse, who worked for many different local hospitals and nursing homes, and was a longtime member of Brookwood Baptist Church.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a grandson, Jeremy Deaton, four brothers; Richard, Marvin, Gary and Albert Travis, and one sister, Charlotte Jubinski.

Surviving is her beloved husband of 51 years, James Lewis Deaton of the home, two sons, Charles Albert Deaton and wife Donna of Gibsonville, NC, Randy Lewis Deaton and wife Erica of Burnsville, NC, and one daughter, Candy Deaton Stepp and husband Eric of Hendersonville, NC. Also surviving are seven grandchildren: Shantel Deaton Clouston, Jordan Deaton, Taylor Stepp, Zachary Stepp, Lexi Reese, Skylar Mae Deaton and Gage Deaton, seven great-grandchildren: Forrest Scott Taylor, J.J. Tompkins, Mikey, Xander and Lily Clouston, Asher Stepp and Jace Stepp, and her four sisters; Beverly Stanton of Scranton, PA, Mary Jane Phillips of Kannapolis, Caroline Dininny and Christine Travis

Funeral services will be held on Sunday, September 27, 2026, at 4:00 P.M. in the Chapel of Heritage Funeral Service, with Rev. Earl Cross officiating. Interment will follow at Burke Memorial Park.

The family will receive friends on Sunday, from 3:00 until 4:00 P.M. at Heritage Funeral Service in Valdese.
