Ronald Alan “Ronnie” Carswell, 67, of Vale, passed away on Wednesday March 18, 2026, at Carolina Caring Hospice, after a period of declining health.

He was born April 28, 1958, in Burke County, a son of the late Mack Carswell and Beatrice Carswell Shepherd. Ronnie retired as a truck driver with Salem Leasing, transporting goods. He was a loving father, grandfather, and was considered the one who loved and cared for his whole family. He was also known as a hard worker his whole life.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his stepfather, Larry Shepherd and a brother-in-law, Benny Parsons.

Those left to cherish his memory are his son, Eric Carswell (Casey Wilfong), daughter, Tammy Courtney, sisters, Ellen Parsons, Maxine Speagle (Terry), Darlene Suttle (James), Debra Ledford (Wesley) and a brother, Michael Shepherd (Renee). Also surviving are the apple of his eyes, his granddaughter, Sara Carswell as well as his other grandchildren, R.J. Courtney, Justin Courtney and a number of nieces and nephews.

Funeral Services for Ronald Alan “Ronnie” Carswell will be held at 3:00 P.M. Sunday March 22, 2026, in the Chapel of Heritage Funeral Service with Rev. Dean McCurry officiating. Interment will follow in the Pleasant Hill Baptist Church Cemetery, Morganton.

The family will receive friends Saturday March 21, 2026, from 6:00 Until 8:00 P.M. at Heritage Funeral Service, Valdese and at other times at the residence of James and Darlene Suttle.
