Roy Lawrence Pendergrass

Mr. Roy Lawrence Pendergrass, 98, of Morganton, passed away on Saturday, August 30, 2025, at Burke Long Term Care following a period of declining health.

Roy was born May 22, 1927, in Macon County, a son of the late W. M. Pendergrass and Leona Pendergrass. He was an active member of Heritage Baptist Church of Morganton for many years. Roy served honorably in the United States Army during World War II.

In addition to his parents, he is preceded in passing by his wife, Avie “Susie” Pendergrass; two sons, Tony Pendergrass and Luther Hoilman; a grandson, Sean Pendergrass; and siblings, Charles Vester Pendergrass, Thelma Maude Pendergrass, James Pendergrass, Ella Mae Pendergrass, Daniel Lester Pendergrass, Ruby Ruth Pendergrass, Samuel Gilbert Pendergrass, and Larry Duke Pendergrass.

Those left to cherish his memory include his son, Lee Hoilman (Sandy) of Valdese; two daughters, Lois Pritchard of Hudson and Judy McGuire of Valdese; a sister, Myrtle Lue Pendergrass; grandchildren, Amanda Jones (Lee), Mitchell McGuire (Breanna), Cassie Hansen (Mark), Andrew McGuire (Kelsey), Dylan Pritchard (Kali), Kevin Hoilman, and Stephen Pruitt; seven greatgrandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.

A Funeral Service will be held on Thursday, September 4, 2025, at 1:00 PM in the Chapel of Heritage Funeral Service with Rev. Dwayne Buchanan officiating. Interment will follow the service at Burke Memorial Park. Military Honors will be presented by the United States Army National Guard.

The family will receive friends prior to the service from 12:00 PM to 1:00 PM on Thursday, September 4, 2025, at Heritage Funeral Service.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Heritage Baptist Church at 707 E Parker Rd., Morganton, NC 28655.
