Mrs. Ruby Arlene Carroll Cook, 90, of Connelly Springs, went to her Heavenly Home, with her loving family by her side, on Sunday February 22, 2026, at her residence after a period of declining health.

Mrs. Cook was born May 30, 1935, in Yancey County, a daughter of the late John and Mary Westall Carroll. She was active in the Connelly Springs Freewill Baptist Church, working with the children, Sunday School teacher and many other aspects of the church family. Her favorite thing was loving over all of the babies and finding a good Rook game. She worked in textiles and retired as the cook from Autumn Care Nursing Center after many years of service. Ruby was a very loving wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother, great great-grandmother and the best cook that ever was.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, James Cook, a son, Randy Cook, brothers, Woodrow, Wallace, Jack, Shelby, Edison, Sam and Marshall and sisters, Ruth and Bessie.

Her memory is cherished by her children: Johnnie (Barbara), Kathy (C.R.), Sandra (Tim), Sherry (Eric), Ralph (Debbie), Ruth Ann, and Cheri; her brothers, Fred and Burdette; and her sister, Flossie Costner. Also surviving are the apples of her eye, her 13 grandchildren, 29 great-grandchildren and 5 great great-grandchildren, a number of nieces and nephews and a special friend Anna Cook.

The family will receive friends from 12:30 PM until 2:00 PM Friday February 27, 2026, at Heritage Funeral Service, Valdese with Services to follow at Connelly Springs Freewill Baptist Church, (2770 Israel Chapel Rd, Connelly Springs) with Rev. Aaron Causby, Rev. Doug Carroll and Rev. Charles Carroll officiating. Interment will follow in the Connelly Spring Freewill Baptist Church Cemetery.

The family would like to offer a special thanks to caregivers, Tracy, Susan, Tonya and all the son and daughters-in-laws for the excellent care given to Mrs. Cook.
