Sherrill Dean Buchanan

Sherrill Dean Buchanan, age 81, of Valdese, NC, passed away on October 29, 2025 at Carolina Caring in Newton, NC.

Sherrill was born July 21, 1944 to the late Ora Buchanan and Nell Ledford Buchanan. He lived most of his life in Buncombe County, but after retirement he found peace living in Rutherfordton. Sherrill was an amazing auto mechanic. He loved his retirement spending many hours taking care of his gardens and lake. Sherrill was talented tinkering and working with hands on practically anything and everything. He never backed down from a challenge.

He is survived by his wife, Virginia Buchanan, two daughters, Sherry Buchanan Black (David), of Carlsbad, New Mexico, Karen Buchanan Whitten, of Candler, North Carolina, and one son, Mark Buchanan of Candler, North Carolina. He had four grandchildren, April Tandon (Joyti), Christopher Whitten, Kelsey Wait (Griffin), and Savannah Eby. Four great grandchildren, and 2 great-great grandchildren. He is all survived by one brother, Ricky Buchanan, one sister, Sandra Buchanan; and stepchildren, Robert Robbie Hemmings of Salisbury, North Carolina, Dawn Lindsay of Salisbury, North Carolina, and Tina Edgerton of Chesterfield, North Carolina.

A private memorial for family and friends will take place at a later date at the family’s lake.

Heritage Funeral Service and Crematory in Valdese is assisting the family.
