Shirley Louise Brittain Richards, 75, of Hickory, went home to be with the Lord on Thursday, September 24, 2026 following a period of declining health.

Shirley was born October 1,1950 in Catawba County, a daughter of the late Pinkney and Tempie Miller Brittain. She worked at B&K and Robinson Hosiery for many years before retiring from Corning Cable. She loved reading her Bible and attended Bible Gospel Baptist Church. Her favorite hobbies were thrifting and reading. Many of her reading materials came from her treasure hunting habit. Her favorite books to pass the time were exciting mysteries and moving inspirational works. She was a passionate lady who loved the life she was given.

In addition to her parents, she is preceded in passing by her sisters, Evelyn Brittain, Lucille Wilson, Joyce Ballard, Lena Hildebrand, and Carolyn Yoder; and a brother, Wayne Brittain.

Those left to cherish her memory include her son, Tommy Richards and wife Angie; brother, Bud Brittain; and multiple nieces, nephews, and cousins she dearly loved.

A Memorial Service will be held at a later date.
