Stefania Bukszak Dworjan, 96 passed away on Sunday, August 17, 2025 at her home in Morganton North Carolina with her loving daughter, Daria, at her side. Stefania was born on June 1, 1929 in the village of Denysiv in Ternopil Oblast, Ukraine and was the daughter of the late Panko and Maria Bukszak.
Stefania married her husband the late Mykola Dworjan on April 21, 1949 in Mittenwald, Germany. They emigrated to the United States on March 3, 1950 and she lived in the East Village of New York City until August 2018 at which time she moved to Morganton, North Carolina to be with her daughter Daria and son in law Michael Mitchell.
Stefania worked as a legal clerk for the office of Harold M. Foster, Esq. at the Greater New York Insurance Company until her retirement.
She was a devote parishioner of St. George Ukrainian Catholic Church and devoted time each week to pierogi making for the church’s kitchen and fundraising café, Streecha. She enjoyed having lunch daily with her friends at the Senior Center and playing Bingo at Self Reliance and at the Village View Projects. She loved to cook for her family and was happiest when family was present for a meal.
Stefania was a loving daughter, wife, mother, grandmother “Baba” and great grandmother. She is survived by her son Ihor Dworjan and wife Dorothy Dworjan of Toms River, NJ, grandson Christopher Dworjan of Lemon Grove, CA, grandson Gregory Dworjan with wife Kristen Dworjan and great grandson Rudolph Dworjan of Chicago, IL, Alexander Dworjan of Durham, NC; daughter in law, Mary Dworjan of Rego Park, NY, grandson Andrew Dworjan and wife Iryna Dworjan and great granddaughter Zoe Dworjan of New York, NY, granddaughter Tania Dworjan and fiancé Matt Mason of Rego Park, NY; daughter Daria Dworjan Mitchell and husband Michael Mitchell of Morganton, NC, grandson Nicholas Mitchell of New York, NY and granddaughter Kristen Mitchell Blanaru with husband Andrei Blanaru and great grandson Nathan Blanaru of Peekskill, NY; son John Dworjan and wife Colleen Dworjan of Monroe, NY, granddaughter Kelsey Dworjan of Danbury, CT, grandson Sean Dworjan of Las Vegas, NV and granddaughter Sarah Dworjan of Guilderland, NY. In addition to her parents and husband, Stefania is preceded in death by her son Terry (Taras) Dworjan.
At her request, Stefania will not have a viewing but a memorial mass will be held for her at a date yet to be determined at St. Andrew Ukrainian Catholic Church in Hamptonburgh, NY followed by a burial at Holy Spirit Ukrainian Catholic Cemetery where her husband and parents are interred.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Amorem, 526 Pine Mountain Road, Hudson, NC 28638. They provided her end of life care in an at home hospice situation with compassion and loving care.
Heritage Funeral Service & Crematory is assisting the family with her final arrangements.
