Troy Lee Stamey, 82, of Valdese, passed away on Monday, August 31, 2026 at his residence following a period of declining health.

Troy was born July 19, 1944 in Burke County to the late Loye Stamey and Mary Seagle Stamey. He retired from Burke County Public School System where he worked in maintenance and was a faithful member of United Baptist Church where he served as a deacon. In retirement, Troy enjoyed woodworking—building two log homes—as well as tending his gardens, antiquing, and studying his ancestry. Troy will be missed greatly and remembered as always being a wonderful husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather.

In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by his daughter, Tabatha Stamey.

He is survived by his loving wife of thirty-two years, Judith Garrison Stamey; daughter, Leslie Justesen and husband Palle; son, Johnny Stamey and wife Jill; step-son, Gregory Saulmon and wife Anna; and grandchildren, Jessica Hill and husband Zack, Lindsay Staten and husband Ian, Brittany Chaney, Tori Chiles and husband Dan, and Allison Harrold and husband Jesse. Also surviving are five great-grandchildren; sisters, Betty Smith, Hazel Hensley and husband Bob, and Margie Lail and husband Hubert; and nephew Jason Hensley along with several other nieces and nephews.

A memorial service will be held on Friday, September 4, 2026 at 4:00 PM at United Baptist Church with Dr. Steve Mathews officiating. Inurnment will follow in the church cemetery.

The family will receive friends prior to the church on Friday from 3:00 PM to 4:00 PM.
