Wayne Woodrow Whisenant, 85, of Morganton, peacefully passed at his home on February 22, 2026, surrounded by his loved ones. Wayne was born in Burke County, a son of the late Iverson “Buddy” and Marie Epley Whisenant.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his son, Eric Whisenant, siblings, Betty Jean Taylor, Doris Hurst, Winford Lee Whisenant, Mabel Whisenant, Mary Stillwell and Patricia Whisenant Cowfer.
Wayne was a faithful member of Rainhill Wesleyan Church. He enjoyed tending to his garden, farming, watching western movies, spending time with his family and hunting. He was a passionate hunter and always looked forward to his annual fall hunting trip with his closest friends. Wayne loved his family and he would always help anyone with anything, no matter what the time of day. He showed compassion and selflessness to all he came in contact with. The three things Wayne loved most in this world were Jesus Christ, deer hunting and being a pawpaw.
Those left to cherish his memory are his wife of 31 years, Susan Duckworth Whisenant, his sister Brenda Moses (Lonnie), his daughter, Erika Mosteller (Nathan), step-daughter, Wendy Cook (Andy), and Shanda Stillwell. Also surviving are his grandchildren, Kaitlynn Whisenant and her wife, Chanley, Dylan Cook, Chase Stillwell, Dustin Mosteller and his furry best pal, Topaz the Cat.
Graveside Services for Wayne Woodrow Whisenant will be held at 1:00 P.M. Wednesday February 25, 2026 in the Rainhill Wesleyan Church Cemetery with Rev. Kevin Brooks officiating.
